How do I train for Driver CPC?
To train for Driver CPC, follow these steps:
- Initial Qualification (if required): New drivers must pass a theory test, hazard perception test, case studies, and a practical demonstration.
- Periodic Training (for existing drivers): Complete 35 hours of approved training every five years. You can take these as individual 7-hour modules or a full course spread across multiple days.
- Choose an Accredited Provider: Select a registered training provider offering courses in topics like defensive driving, fuel efficiency, and road safety.
- Online or In-Person: Decide whether to attend online courses or in-person sessions at a training centre.
At the end of your training, your hours will be logged with the DVSA, and you’ll retain compliance with Driver CPC requirements.
How do I check my Driver CPC hours?
You can check your Driver CPC hours online via the GOV.UK Driver CPC training records portal. Here’s how:
- Visit the Driver CPC training record service.
- Log in using your driving licence number and personal details.
- View your recorded training hours and ensure they’re up-to-date.
If there’s a discrepancy, contact your training provider to ensure the hours are reported correctly.
How to get a Driver CPC card?
To obtain a Driver CPC card (also known as a Driver Qualification Card or DQC):
- Complete Initial Qualification: New drivers must pass all parts of the Initial Qualification, including theory, case studies, and practical assessments.
- Complete 35 Hours of Periodic Training: If you’re an existing driver, ensure you complete 35 hours of approved training within a five-year period.
Once you’ve met the requirements, your Driver CPC card will be automatically sent to you by the DVSA. It’s typically delivered within 20 days of completing the necessary training.
What does a Driver CPC card look like?
A Driver CPC card, officially called a Driver Qualification Card (DQC), is a plastic card similar in size to a driving licence. Features include:
- Your Name and Photograph
- Driver Qualification Number
- Card Expiry Date
- DVSA Logo
The card serves as proof that you’ve met the Driver CPC requirements and must be carried whenever you’re driving professionally. Failure to produce your DQC during an inspection can result in penalties. If you lose or damage your card, you can request a replacement through the DVSA for a small fee.
