Can I do my Driver CPC online in the UK?

Yes. UK drivers can complete their full 35 hours of periodic Driver CPC online through DVSA-approved, JAUPT-registered courses delivered live by Zoom. Every 7-hour session counts as one day towards the 35 hours required every 5 years, and 3.5-hour modular sessions can be combined into 7 hours for International Driver CPC.

CPC Express delivers live instructor-led online Driver CPC under NLTC consortium approval AC00591 with RADAT-approved instructor RN24100001. Courses run from £16.99 for a 3.5-hour module or £29.99 for a 7-hour course, with training hours uploaded to your DVSA record the same day.

Pre-recorded video alone does not count. The training must be live and instructor-led. According to GOV.UK guidance (updated October 2024), a maximum of 12 hours of e-learning is permitted across the 35-hour cycle.

Driving without valid Driver CPC: up to £1,000 fine

Professional HGV, lorry, bus and coach drivers in the UK need 35 hours of periodic Driver CPC training every 5 years. If your Driver Qualification Card (DQC) expires, you cannot drive professionally until you complete the remaining hours.

According to GOV.UK, drivers caught driving professionally without valid Driver CPC can be fined up to £1,000, and operators can face enforcement action. If your DQC expired more than 60 days ago but less than 2 years ago, you'll need a 7-hour Return to Driving course before you can return to UK professional driving.

How many Driver CPC hours do I need in 2026?

Most professional UK HGV and PSV drivers need 35 hours of periodic Driver CPC training every 5 years to keep their Driver Qualification Card (DQC) valid. This applies to category C, C1, C+E, C1+E, D, D1, DE and D1E licence holders driving professionally.

You can complete the 35 hours as any combination of DVSA-approved courses: five 7-hour days, ten 3.5-hour modules for National CPC, or a mix. A maximum of 12 hours can be e-learning; the remaining 23+ hours must be live instructor-led training. You cannot repeat the same course in a 5-year cycle without a valid reason, such as ADR refresher training.

Check your current hours on the official GOV.UK Driver CPC record service before booking — it takes 30 seconds and shows exactly how many hours you still need.

Online Driver CPC: Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions UK drivers ask most before booking.

Is online Driver CPC genuinely approved by the DVSA?

Yes. CPC Express courses are DVSA-approved under NLTC consortium AC00591 and delivered by RADAT-approved instructor RN24100001. Every hour you complete is uploaded to the official DVSA Driver CPC record in the same way as classroom training.

How much does online Driver CPC cost with CPC Express?

Online Driver CPC starts at £16.99 (incl. VAT) for a 3.5-hour module and £29.99 (incl. VAT) for a 7-hour course. The DVSA upload fee is included — there are no hidden charges. A full 35 hours costs from £149.95.

What's the difference between National and International Driver CPC?

National Driver CPC qualifies you to drive professionally in the UK only and can be completed in 3.5-hour or 7-hour blocks. International Driver CPC qualifies you for the UK and EU and must be completed in 7-hour blocks (which can be 2 × 3.5-hour modules taken consecutively). Both require 35 hours every 5 years.

Do I need to have my camera on during the course?

Yes. DVSA requires live attendance verification, so cameras must stay on for the full session. You'll also take part in Q&A and short group activities to meet the interaction requirement.

When will my hours appear on my DVSA record?

CPC Express uploads your hours the same day your course finishes. They typically appear on the GOV.UK Driver CPC record within 5 working days, though often much sooner.

What tech do I need to attend?

A laptop, tablet or smartphone with a working camera and microphone, plus a stable internet connection (Zoom recommends at least 2 Mbps). We send a tech-check link 24 hours before your course so you can test everything in advance.

Can I complete the full 35 hours online?

Yes — 23 of the 35 hours must be live instructor-led training (which CPC Express delivers by Zoom), and up to 12 hours can be e-learning. You don't need to set foot in a classroom at any point.

Can I book multiple drivers for my fleet?

Yes. We handle fleet bookings with consolidated invoicing, same-day DVSA uploads for every driver, and group discounts for 10+ drivers. Contact our team to arrange a dedicated private course for your operator.

What if I miss my course?

If you can't attend, contact us at least 48 hours before the start time and we'll move you to another date at no extra cost. No-shows without notice cannot be refunded — but we'd rather help you rebook than lose your fee.

My DQC has expired — can you help?

If your Driver Qualification Card expired 60 days to 2 years ago, you need a 7-hour Return to Driving course before you can drive professionally in the UK again. You'll then need to complete the remaining 28 hours within 12 months. We offer Return to Driving courses — read the full guide here.
